AREA signs Bilateral Agreement to support Industry Professionals and Local Economy

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Saturday, January 30, 2021—America’s largest trade association, representing 1.4 million members in 73 countries, the National Association of Realtors (NAR), has welcomed Trinidad and Tobago’s Association of Real Estate Agents (AREA) as its newest partner.

Formalised in a Bilateral Agreement signed on January 28, Trinidad and Tobago becomes the 74th country in which NAR has global bilateral partnerships, and the 12th market for NAR’s partners within the Latin America and Caribbean region.

This partnership will facilitate connections among local real estate agents and industry professionals from all over the world to share business opportunities, promote best practices, and a code of ethics that ensures trust, confidence and compliance in the real estate industry. It builds on the extensive work done through AREA’s leadership to drive the development and implementation of structures and standards, as the only registered association for Real Estate Agents in Trinidad and Tobago for over 30 years.

Commenting on the initiative, President of AREA, Mark Edghill stated, “These are interesting times for our industry and we are very pleased to be able to connect our membership, and welcome real estate agents across Trinidad and Tobago, to the world of opportunities in their careers. This partnership is also intended to open up key avenues to attract direct foreign investment into Trinidad and Tobago as a vital contributor to our future economic growth, as it aligns with other initiatives such as those of InvesTT and ExporTT”.

Edghill added that through this partnership, “Not only will we be accessing international support for the development of our industry, we will be further developing on the foundation built by AREA in this market over the past 30 years, by enhancing our educational programmes and procedures and including internationally recognised qualifications and designations, giving clients the confidence that we are realtors who meet global standards”.

President of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), Charlie Oppler, who signed the agreement along with Edghill during a virtual ceremony, expressed his pleasure at AREA’s partnership noting, “This solidifies our shared commitment to expanding international opportunities for realtors and advancing our industry around the globe”.
